The Ants’ Four-Part Philosophy
Published July 11th, 2008Jim Rohn determined that ants live by a four-part philosophy. This philosophy can be a powerful tool in your life.
1. An ant doesn’t quit.
An ant doesn’t worry about whether or not a task can be done or not. He just does it. He doesn’t wonder if it’s too tough. He just does it, until it’s complete.
When you block their ant line, they find a way around. They don’t stop looking for a way around an obstacle, until they find it.
Don’t give up. The scent’s around here somewhere. You were on the right path. If you weren’t, you can find it. Look around. And remember, never, ever give up.
2. During the summer, ants think winter.
You know…There’s a pervasive philosophy in society that goes something like this, “Eat, drink, and be merry for tomorrow we die.” Perhaps you’ve heard this philosophy before. You might even subscribe to this philosophy. You might want to look at the ants’ philosophy.
Ants always remember that winter’s coming. A day doesn’t go by that they’re not preparing. Do you prepare a little everyday?
3. Ants think summer all winter.
They’re no different than you or me. They like to be outside. They get cabin fever. But ants know that winter never lasts forever. At least it hasn’t yet.
Although we may not be able to see the light at the end of the tunnel sometimes, it’s there. It might be just around the next corner. The sun will shine again. I promise.
4. During the summer, ants gather all they can. Jim Rohn has named this the all-they-possibly-can philosophy. Makes sense.
The seasons follow predictable patterns. Fall follows summer. Winter follows Fall. Spring falls Winter. Summer follows Spring. We know what’s coming next. It’s never a surprise.
But we never know the exact day that a particular season will start on. We never know when the snow will start falling. The time to prepare is now.
So remember the ant philosophy…
1. Don’t ever, ever quit.
2. Remember winter is coming.
3. Summer is coming. Look forward to it.
4. Gather all-you-possibly-can.
