  • The Importance of a Sitemap

    Sometimes a sitemap can be looked upon as redundant where building a website is concerned, that can be true in some cases especially if you have made a sitemap purely just for the sake of having one. By highlighting the reason for using a properly put together sitemap, it will help you to arrange your own sitemap so that it will suit your needs.

    1) Navigation purposes The sitemap will basically act as a map to your website. So when the visitors are looking through the website and possibly lose their bearings because of the thousands of pages on your website, it will also be a good help aid to refer to your sitemap to see where they are, and navigate through your pages without any difficulty or problems.

    2) Conveying your site’s them When a visitors arrives or loads up the sitemap, it will give them a better understanding of the website without there being any fuss, so lots of time will be saved. They dont have to understand your website fully by reading through each page, and if the gist of your site is on the sitemap that will be save your visitors’ time, and you, instead of explaining it on every page.

    3) Site optimization purposes
    When you make a sitemap, what you are really making is an individual page which will list all of the links to every single webpage on your website. Think about what will happen when the search engine robots hit your sitemap webpage — what will happen is that they will follow all the links on your sitemap and so what will naturally happen is that all the webpages on your site will get indexed by the search engines! This is one of the purposes that a link to the sitemap should to be put definitely on the front page of your website.

    4) Organization and relevance The sitemap allows you to have an easy bird’s eye view of site layout, and whenever you want to put new information or different sections on your website, this will give you the ability to take the existing list of pages into thought and all you will have to do is glance at the sitemap you have created. so now the result will be that, you will have a perfectly organized and structured website with all relevant sections sorted according to their position of relevance.

    As you can see from the above reasons, it is very important and useful to implement a sitemap into your website projects especially is they are a considerable size. By doing things this way, this will enable you to keep your website easy to use accesible and neatly organized for all parties concerned!
