Women Deserve More Credit In Corporate America
Published July 31st, 2008When you’re a mother and you’re in the office, no matter how busy you are, your mind always wanders to your family. You think about what they’re doing, if they’re okay, if your husband likes the rushed packed lunch you prepared for him, if you put the right amount of peanut butter in your son’s sandwich and more. You may not even know this is happening. Take a day and write down all the interruptions you have in a day while trying to work your home based business. You will be amazed at how much time you spend putting out fires.
There are women who make it seem as if running a home based business and taking care of their family or having a healthy social life is a breeze. However, if her Global Mentor is not properly assisting her, the the pressures of family life and the business could cause failure. If you have a weak Global Mentor, go find another. DROP EM.
Studies have shown that many business women often feel empty when they’re not doing anything productive. Hence, they establish their own home based business. Nothing beats being able to work at home while spending time with your family.
Although this situation does sound inviting and less stressful, setting up your home based business isn’t as laid back as it appears. Even though you are staying home to work, you still have to be able to attend to client’s needs while taking care of your family. Do yourself a favor and get a Global Mentor.
Balancing both of them can be very exhausting, not to mention demanding. Nevertheless, there are means to cope through these without losing your head. You need to have a heart to heart talk with your family. Nothing too serious, make it seem like a normal family meeting or conversation. This approach will ease your family into feeling comfortable as you relay to them what the real situation is. They have to understand that you are still working even if you don’t go to your office anymore. You can make a schedule so you can stabilize your time and give an equal share of your concentration to your work and to your family.
First task is for you to sit with your family and set some rules with them and make them understand that you don’t stay at home just to clean up after them. Your family has to realize that when you were still working in an office they don’t go barging in your workroom to have their snacks opened for them and the same applies in your new work. Tell them that they can do their chores while you work and then you can attend to them during lunch time or after you get some of your work done. This way, your family will know that you need time to focus on your job as well.
If your kids are too young for chores, you can consider hiring a nanny or a teenage babysitter. Let’s face it. No matter how much you want to mind your kids 24/7, it’s just not possible especially if you have a deadline to meet or if you have a really important client call. Having someone watch over your kids for a few hours can give you a few more hours to catch up and finally finish your work.
Procrastinating has never really done anything good to anyone. The sooner you finish your work, the sooner you can play with your kids and have some alone time with your husband. If you get your job done quicker, your family will be more grateful and happy. Running a business and taking care of your family at the same time is tiring yet fun. Working at home can be more enjoyable if you can manage to spend most of it with your family. Be patient and maintain a regular schedule with your work and your family and after a while you’ll be controlling your business like a pro.
